SEO or User Interface?

As more and more websites come online every day, it seems harder and harder to get traffic to your site, and regardless of your business, traffic means customers. Sales, typically is a numbers game - the more people you talk to, the better your chances of getting a sale. Your website is not much different. As salesmen practice their presentations, they can get a higher conversion rate (or closing rate), and again, the same goes for your website.

So the biggest question, and one of the biggest spots for debate, is “do you build your website for search engine value or do you build it for user interface?”

While search engine optimization should play some role in your site, ultimately you should build it with the thought of your readers in mind. How well can users navigate your site? Is it easy on the eyes? Do you have unnecessary garbage cluttering you your pages?

Maintaining a clean look with good content is ultimately the best way to go when designing your site with the user in mind. Delivering quality content will keep your search engine value fairly strong, and if you can learn to balance the two, you will eventually have a website you can be proud of.
